Finally figuring out you're trans at 30 can have a hell of an effect on a girl. This was the first track I wrote afterwards, and I tried to capture that elation here. Making it was really physical, from the opening muted guitar strums to the doubled shredding solos.
I was listening to a lot of The Go! Team's "Rolling Blackouts" at the time, and took inspiration from "Apollo Throwdown" in specific. The over-saturated, dense, overwhelming elation of the track guided a lot of my decision-making in what I was trying to shoot for with "Colors".
The lyrics that finally come in about halfway through were meant to put color imagery in the listener's head and was inspired by witnessing the sea of colorful pride flags at my first Pride festival. To finally feel like a part of such a colorful family was amazing.
lyrics
Like sand, falling through fingers
Like stars, drifting through clouds
Like rays, light through the oceans
Like rain, carving through rock
We've got colors, colors, colors
Like flames, curling through embers
Like fields, bursting with life
Like birds, flying in formation
Like souls, chromatic aberration
We've got colors, colors, colors
Hands raised, infinite rainbow
Made of, Aurora Borealis
Power, through the constellation
Power, throughout the nation
the bass on this is perfect, my god. the heaviness and the grit is perfect, and the fact that ya hear that from beginning to end is FANTASTIC!! i especially love the inclusion of more high-pitched instrumentals like the pianos, namely. and when they leave, oh Goddddd does it get real hardcore. this really is ultra demonpowered supercharged hardcore, no joke. not only that, this album is Hellaaaa innovative with its composition. some seriously good sequences (esp w the chiptune) going on, love it Molly
